All the colour and mystique of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance come alive with a presentation that is rich in music and drama. From 12th century troubadour songs through beautiful songs by Machaut, to 15th century French and Spanish dance music and English lute songs by Henry VIII and John Dowland. All performed on a large variety of mediaeval instruments including the lute, harp, fiddle, bagpipes and gittern. One of the most delightful discs I have ever heard. The voices combine beautifully and provide such expression, clarity and contrasts of sounds.
