Anton Schweighofer • A Quiet Radical
Anton Schweighofer • A Quiet Radical
Buildings Projects Concepts
Anton Schweighofer, one of Austria's most eminent architects, is a declared supporter of a rationalism that relates both to a traditional anonymous architecture as well as to that of the classical modern movement; a lone figure, therefore, in an architectural scene that rates sophisticated detail and glossy surfaces more highly than the radical sounding out of the typological and structural aspects of a building project. Among the projects that are presented here in detail are the 'Stadt des Kindes' in Vienna, a Children's Village in New Delhi, a Hospital in Zwettl (Lower Austria), a Research Station in the Arctic, Community Halls in Lower Austria as well as Residential Buildings in Vienna and Berlin. Discussions Schweighofer had on topics central to his work form the introduction to the book: - with Adolf Max Vogt on architecture and society - with Otto Kapfinger in structure and functionalism - with Eduard Sekler in questions of the teaching of architecture - with Bruno Reichlin on place, region and tradition - with Walter M. Chramosta and Christian Kühn on typology and design.
